This 32 yr old american has been a real Champ all his life..he has just won Tour de France for the record seventh time..Tour de France (Tour) is considered as the ultimate test of cycling..
n winning the Tour for 7 consecutive years isnt a joke !
The real twist in the story is that he has won all his Tour titles after recovering from "testicular cancer"...He had traces of cancer in his lungs and in his brain too..He had to undergo severe chemo cycles to survive..n that too with survival chances of 25% max.. Cycling was a far cry..His doctors had little hope of his survival.. But the man of steel took the strongest chemo as one would undergo a simple therapy..
After goin through doses of chemo, he started cycling again in the last few months of 1998.. He had won Tour stages before but he had not won Tour title yet..So he started to ride his bike with the sole intention to win the Tour..Daily 5 hrs of biking on the various terrains of US and europe were really hard on him..But he was really up for the Tour title..He trained hard for it..He got the best support from his team n family too..
Not did he win the 1999 Tour, but he continued winning the Tour for 7 consecutive years.. A world-record ! He was forced to pass through 'n' no. of doping tests after his return to cycling, but he was proved innocent everytime..He had not won a stage in 2005's Tour but was leading in overall standings..He won the 20th stage beating his toughest rival jan ullrich (GERMANY) n also clinched the Tour title..
After winning this year's Tour, he has retired from the proffesional cycling.. He's been a true inspiration to all..We just cant think of running away from some difficult situation, when we think abt the story of this man..Also "lance armstrong foundation for cancer patients" gathers millions for the betterment of cancer patients..
